The Unfading Beauty by Thomas Carew

He that loves a rosy cheek,
Or a coral lip admires,
Or from star-like eyes doth seek
Fuel to maintain his fires:
As old Time makes these decay,
So his flames must waste away.

But a smooth and steadfast mind,
Gentle thoughts and calm desires,
Hearts with equal love combined,
Kindle never-dying fires.
Where these are not, I despise
Lovely cheeks or lips or eyes.

The man in this poem found beauty in a woman, and it goes to show how powerful beauty can be. He was captivated by her 'rosy cheeks' and 'coral lips' but he then fell in love with her, and although she may not be beautiful to everyone this man thought so. This goes to show you that you can find beauty in anything, and someone, somewhere will find it. Outer beauty can be very powerful because it can draw people in and get some people certain opportunities that you may not if someone else's opinion is different. Also because it can help create a special bond between people. Sometimes it can get almost too powerful, and people may become vain and it can effect your personality and how people perceive you.
